At the beginning of the New Year, many people declare a resolution and then find that 3 months into the year they can’t remember it, much less kept their commitment to it. Well, years ago I stopped announcing a resolution and started focusing on 5 key words that I wanted to resonate in my life over the next 12 months. I’ve taught this technique to hundreds of students and I know it can work wonders for you as well.
Here’s how it works:
First you have to think about what do you want more of in your life? This can be challenging at first, but is of course the most essential step.
To jump start things, here’s a short list that you can use as a starting point for generating your Focus Five:
Kindness
Synergy
Love
Value
Patience
Friendship
Faith
Happiness
Helpful
Energy
Creativity
Now, select 5 words that you want to focus on for the rest of the year. Next, jot down your words on a small piece of note paper or on a post it note and placed it near your workstation, preferably in your line of sight.
This year my Focus Five words are: Patience, Simplify, Balance, Value, & Monetize. These 5 words fit all the areas of my life. I’m a mom, business owner and a volunteer. I’ve been focusing on strengthening the active presence of these focus words in my life over the past three months and I can feel and see the significant growth that focusing on these words has manifested in my life. Focusing on 5 gives you a list of words to live by. It’s powerful, easy, and fun.
If you haven’t already, I strongly encourage you to identify your Focus Five words for the rest of this year. Go ahead; come up with 5 right now. After you post them near your computer, glance at them often. Repeat them to yourself often, and you will transform your mind which transforms your life; as thought begets action, which begets manifestation. Enjoy!
