How to Gain Instant Confidence

Confidence, or rather the lack of it, is one of the biggest problems a human being can face. Whether it is asking someone out on a date, or asking your boss for a raise, if you aren’t confident, you will not get what you want.

Some people seem confident all the time. They walk into a room and control a conversation, a situation. They seem at ease with being in charge, or speaking in public.

Others, meanwhile, hang back, don’t put themselves forward. They don’t get the big jobs. They never ask that person out. They are ‘not confident’.

A lot of this is down to social conditioning. Your environment definitely informs you as a person. And if anyone ever told you that you weren’t confident as you were growing up, chances are you aren’t presenting as being so.

The good news is that confidence can be regained. Anyone can become confident, and it can even take just a few seconds. There is no need to buy a self health book or undergo therapy. Just a few minutes to get to know the basic techniques will pay dividends.

Positive Visualisation.

Confidence is gained quite easily if you practise positive visualisation. All this involves is literally visualising yourself doing the thing that you lack confidence in. For example, if you hate public speaking, imagine yourself, in your mind and as vividly as possible, giving a speech.

Have fun with it; imagine the sounds, the sights, the smells. Bring the visualization to life as much as you possibly can, and as often as you can, depending on the severity of the problem.

Athletes use visualisation a lot when preparing for a trial or event. You can use it for the little things in our lives that threaten to destabilise our general confidence.

Positive Physicality

This is all about moving. Your body reflects and influences your inner workings. If you are all pumped up and full of energy, this generally means this is the way you feel.

However, if you walk into a situation that requires confidence and you show up with sloping shoulders and a shuffling gait, chances are this is how you are going to feel during that situation.

So if you need to get confident quick, jump up, punch the air and start feeling confident. The movement of blood around your body and the energy you create will do wonders for your confidence levels.

So, to sum up, get visualising and get moving. These two techniques will pump up your confidence to new levels, and will make those nerve-wracking situations seem easy and totally non-threatening.
