How to Harness the Power of Positive Visualization in 5 Simple Steps

Did you know that I almost always get a great parking space when I go somewhere? Do you know why? BECAUSE I EXPECT TO GET A GREAT PARKING SPACE!

As I approach a parking lot, I visualize an ideal space and feel gratitude for that space. Then I take my time and circle the parking lot, and after a few minutes my ideal space becomes available.

This is not magic, and doesn’t require any special skill. It’s about the power of positive visualization. This power can be applied in any situation, no matter how big or small. I would like to share with you five steps that will get you started with attracting those things that you want into your life:

1) Visualize what you want.
Too many times, we focus on what we don’t want, and not on what we do want. What do you want in your life? It can be anything, ranging from the convenience of a good parking space to a new job or relationship. Be specific in your visualization: what does it look like and feel like? How will you know when you have what you want?

2) Feel gratitude for what you want.
Once you have visualized what you want, the next step is to act like you already have it and feel thankful for it! Let’s use finding a parking space as an example. Saying to yourself, “I am thankful for my parking space,” and actually feeling thankful lets the universe know that you are inviting this good fortune into your life and have accepted it as a reality.

3) Detach from results.
This step can be a tough one for many of us. After you visualize what you want and feel gratitude for it, you then open yourself up to whatever results come your way. For instance, you have visualized a new job and have created the thankful energy about the new job that is coming into your life – but what that new opportunity will be is not always obvious right away. You may have an idea of what your ideal new job is, but isn’t it possible that there are options out there that you haven’t even thought of? Detachment from results means that you withhold judgment of new situations and events in your life; they are not necessarily good or bad – just an unfolding of the results of your positive visualization and affirmations.

4) Remain open to opportunities for growth and change.
When you make positive visualization a part of your daily routine, you will be amazed at how much more interesting your life will become! New opportunities will come your way, and because you are open to whatever the universe has to offer, you view all new opportunities as real possibilities. Also, you may start to see opportunities in your current situation that you didn’t even notice before.

5) Be mindful of what is important to you.
Although you are open to whatever may come your way, staying focused on what is important to you will be helpful in making decisions about how to handle all the new opportunities coming your way. You can ask yourself: Is this new opportunity in line with what is important to me? Is this opportunity a step toward where I want to go? What is the growth opportunity in this situation?

Remember, like with any new skill, these steps will take practice. And, as you start to experience new opportunities in your life, you will find yourself wanting to practice these techniques more and more.

Enjoy your great parking spaces!
