First, let’s look at what procrastination REALLY is.
Procrastination is simply your subconscious mind trying to protect you from what it perceives as danger. Of course, danger to your subconscious is ANY change. So unless you grew up with parents or other mentors who taught you that you can be, have and do anything in life, you’re probably a procrastinator.
Procrastination is the number one reason why people are unsuccessful in life. It makes no difference how many self-help programs you do – until you stop procrastinating, nothing will change.
What you have to do is “trick” your subconscious mind into thinking that what you’re doing will not change your life that much. The way to do that is by doing things towards your goals and dreams on a VERY small scale.
As an example, let’s say your goal is to do 300 situps a day. Here’s what you do:
Day 1: Do ONE situp
Day 2: Do TWO situps
Day 3: Do THREE situps
And so on until a week has gone by.
It may seem ridiculous, but trust me – this is extremely powerful, because you’re tricking your subconscious mind into thinking that there’s not going to be a change.
EVERYONE can do one situp a day – so this is a guarantee that you’ll actually do it. Of course, as you do your one situp, then 2 the next day, you’ll probably end up doing more – and that’s part of the point – to establish a new habit, by taking ridiculously small (but 100% achievable steps).
What happens is that the neuronet in your brain starts rearranging itself and actually “installs” a brand new habit.
Once this happens, procrastination in that area vanishes.
